Large-Format PL System

The new ALEXA LF by ARRI features a sensor that is slightly larger than full frame. In fact, the LF currently features the largest full-frame sensor of any cinema camera on the market! The LF records native 4K with the best overall image quality ARRI has to offer. This allows filmmakers to explore an immersive large-format aesthetic while retaining the sensor’s natural colorimetry, pleasing skin tones and stunning capability for HDR and WCG workflows. Efficient ProRes and uncompressed, unencrypted ARRIRAW up to 150 fps are amongst the versatile recording formats that encompass all on-set workflow requirements.

The LPL lens mount is a crucial element of this new system, optimized for large-format sensors. It features a wider diameter and shorter flange focal depth. This allows the ARRI Signature Prime lenses and all future large-format optics to be small and lightweight, with a fast T-stop and pleasing bokeh. This combination of features would not be possible within the confines of the PL lens mount. The LPL mount will also be available for other ARRI cameras such as the ALEXA Mini. In addition, it is being licensed to third-party lens and camera manufacturers.

Specs

The new LPL Mount is optimized for large-format sensors. A wider diameter and shorter flange focal depth allows all future large-format optics to be small and lightweight, with a fast T-stop and pleasing bokeh—a combination of features that would not be possible within the confines of the PL lens mount. We also carry the LPL to PL adapter to allow for any PL mount lens to be mounted to the Alexa LF.
Maintaining the ALEXA family’s optimal pixel size for best overall image quality results in a 4448 x 3096 picture, which can be recorded in full, up to 90 fps, using the LF Open Gate mode. An LF 16:9 mode maximizes lens options while meeting 4K deliverable standards, and an LF 2.39:1 mode combines a cinematic widescreen image with high frame rates up to 150 fps for sensuous slow motion. All sensor modes offer true 800 ASA sensitivity as well as reduced noise, providing the perfect canvas for modern, subtle lighting techniques.
The ALEXA LF can record onto either high-performance SXR Capture Drives or SxS PRO+ cards. The camera only has a single card slot. Included with the LF is a SXR adapter, just like the one used SXT W, to record to SXR drives. SXR Capture Drives – deliver top speeds of 150 fps with ARRIRAW and 100 fps with ProRes SxS PRO+ cards – provide top speed of 90 fps with ProRes
ALEXA LF offers the same tried-and-true workflows as other ALEXA cameras. Recording at various resolutions is possible in uncompressed, unencrypted ARRIRAW or fast, efficient ProRes. Existing ARRI Look Files can be used with ALEXA LF, plus the entire range of ARRI workflow software tools will also support ALEXA large-format images.
Like its ALEXA SXT W predecessor, the ALEXA LF camera reduces the number of cables required as a wireless video transmission and remote lens & camera control are built into the camera body.
We carry 3 necessary FSND Filters which can be inserted manually in front of the sensor (ND .6, ND 1.2 and ND 1.8 = 1, 2 and 3 stops). The new ARRI Full Spectrum ND filter serves as the front line of image control. A natural succession to ARRI’s high quality products, this external FSND filter not only provides protection but has a palpable effect on image quality.
The ARRI ALEXA EVF-1 Electronic Viewfinder is a film-style, low latency (≤ frame delay), color electronic viewfinder with a 1280 x 768 F-LCOS microdisplay and ARRI LED illumination, both temperature controlled. A straightforward operation is assured through camera status visible in the viewfinder and a number of quick access buttons for often used functions such as zoom and exposure assist. The viewfinder’s settings, as well as basic camera settings, can be changed by the operator directly on the EVF-1.
This range of 26-volt batteries has been designed for running native 24v voltage cameras. These all feature a male V-Mount type fitting which is compatible with the Reel Power range of adaptors/fittings and chargers only. New low resistance cell technology has been introduced to the Reel Power N-Series range, allowing high discharge and improved cycle life. They have a built-in fuel gauge & Hawk-Woods build quality. The built-in Total Battery Protection system offers over discharge/voltage protection, short circuit protection, and thermal protection.
